Question 9

Correlate beautiful vs. Kitsch picture taking exercise with “data collection”, “observation”, “abstraction” and “awareness”.

I collected data from some sources to understand what does a beautiful and kitsch Picture mean. Then,i made some observations around the campus to find the most suitable beautiful and kitsch scene. When i find the scene, i am conscious of what i will take a photo of.Next, i start taking photos and i abstracted things to beautiful and kitsch which are abstract concepts.

Question 8

What does “iterative” mean?
What does “sequential” mean?

Iterative means repetitious.. In software development, iterative is used to describe a heuristic planning and development process where an application is developed in small sections called iterations. Each iteration is reviewed and critiqued by the software team and potential end-users; insights gained from the critique of an iteration are used to determine the next step in development. Data models or sequence diagrams, which are often used to map out iterations, keep track of what has been tried, approved, or discarded, and eventually serve as a kind of blueprint for the final product.

Sequence is the arrangement of things logically ordered. The things in the sequence has relationships with each other.A process may be sequential which means the steps of the process are related to each other and maintaining logically.

Question 7

What is an “event”?
What is a “process”?
What is a “life cycle”?

Event is a phenomenon that follows and is caused by some previous phenomenon.

Process is a naturally occurring or designed sequence of changes of properties or attributes of an object or system

Life cycle is the process of an organisms or a subtracts life between its birth and death.A products life cycle indicates the process between a products development and it’s decline. There are 5 main stages in a product’s life cycle. These are product development, introduction, growth, maturity and decline.

Question 6

What does “validation/validity” mean?
What does “significance” mean?
What does “reliability” mean?
What does “relevance/relevant” mean?

Validation is the process of checking if something satisfies a certain criterion. Examples would include checking if a statement is true (validity) , In engineering or as part of a quality management system, validation confirms that the needs of an external customer or user of a product, service, or system are met. validation is ensuring "you built the right product"

Significiance is the the meaning and importance of something.

Reliability is the ability of a person or system to perform and maintain its functions in routine circumstances, as well as hostile or unexpected circumstances.

Relevance is the ability (as of an information retrieval system) to retrieve material that satisfies the needs of the user.

Question 5

What is “model”?
What is “snowball effect”?
What is “waterfall diagram”?

Model is a representation of a something, generally in a smaller scale.Model shows the working of an object,a system or a concept. For example, before producing a car, model of the car is produced. The model shows the deficits of car and it can be revised.

Snowball effect is a figurative term comes from a small ball of snow that starts to become larger as it goes down from the top of mountain. Finally it becomes an avalance that has dangerous and destructive effect.Similiarly,a process starts with a small action, one action triggers another and the action chain becomes larger and larger in a beneficial way or in a harmful way.

Waterfall diagram comes from waterfalls. For waterfalls, Once the water has flowed over the edge of the cliff and has begun its journey down the side of the mountain, it cannot turn back. the waterfall model describes a development method that is linear and sequential. Waterfall development has distinct goals for each phase of development. The advantage of waterfall development is that it allows for departmentalization and managerial control. A schedule can be set with deadlines for each stage of development and a product can proceed through the development process like a car in a carwash, and theoretically, be delivered on time. Development moves from concept, through design, implementation, testing, installation, troubleshooting, and ends up at operation and maintenance. Each phase of development proceeds in strict order, without any overlapping or repeating steps.

Question 4

What is “strategy”?
What is “plan”?
What is “control”?

Strategy is a particular plan or approach to achieve a goal.Strategies are choices and their outcomes. You plan and organize something to do something, your plan and organization of how to do,when to do things are your strategy.

Plan is a procedure or a method to achieve an outcome.Plan is often used to move from one circumstance to another to achieve a goal.

Control can be defined as manipulation or authorization of a group or a system. This means you control something you manage something.Another meaning of control is to check a situation or a system. This means you control something you verify it is working right.

Question 3

What does “theory” mean?
What does “hypothesis” mean?
What does “paradigm” mean?

Theory is an explanation of something that is supported by facts, observation and experiments in science. In everyday languge theory may be an opinion or a speculation not depend on facts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/theory

Hyphothesis is an explanation for a phenomenon.Hyphothesis is an unimproved idea based on observations.By working on hyphothesis and doing experiments, hyphothesis may become a part of a theory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothesis

Paradigm:The word “paradigm” comprehends a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices constituting a view of reality. The scientific paradigm is like a scientific method but in more specific way.It includes the steps:

  1. what is to be observed and scrutinized
  2. the kind of questions that are supposed to be asked and probed for answers in relation to this subject
  3. how these questions are to be structured
  4. how the results of scientific investigations should be interpreted
  5. how is an experiment to be conducted, and what equipment is available to conduct the experiment.(Kuhn,1996)

Question 1-2

What is a “problem”?

A problem is a deficit or a surplus of something that makes hard to achieve a goal.

What does “method” mean?
What does “methodology” mean?

method:The way of doing something systematicly, step by step. For example,Scientific method.
In scientific method there are 5 basic steps 1)Identifying problem,
2)Make a hypothesis
3)test the hyphothesis
4)collect and analyze data
5)make conclusions.
That is the scientific method for solving the problem.

Methodology: The way in which information is found or something is done. The methodology includes the methods, procedures, and techniques used to collect and analyze information.
Methodology includes the following concepts :
1. a collection of theories, concepts or ideas;
2. comparative study of different approaches; and
3. critique of the individual methods
Methodolygy is used when method would be more accurate.Methodology includes methods, process, activities, tasks, procedures and techniques used to collect and analyze information.Methodology is the way which information is found in or something is done.
